How does your hourly rate compare to Dutch agency rates?

Our hourly rate is €60-€65 across all roles (UX/UI designer, frontend developer, backend developer, full-stack developer, project manager). In the Netherlands market, comparable senior roles typically charge €70 to €125 per hour depending on specialism. The comparison table above shows the difference per role. The lower rate is the result of structural choices: remote-first with no expensive office, a hybrid team across NL and India that keeps overhead lean, and a senior team that handles strategy, design and development together without project-management layers. Not lower quality, lower overhead.

What does a typical project actually cost?

Most projects sit between €5,000 and €25,000. The comparison table above shows concrete examples: a focused WordPress site runs around €5,200 to €5,850, a UX-led WordPress build with custom design runs €5,850 to €6,500, a WooCommerce webshop with multilingual setup runs €9,750 to €11,050, and a custom web application runs €8,450 to €9,750. Larger projects with custom backend work, complex integrations, or multi-region requirements run higher. Smaller scoped pieces (landing pages, single-feature additions) run lower. The biggest scope variables are integration count, custom design depth, and content migration scope. We map this in discovery before any number gets put on paper.

Are there hidden costs or fees on top of the proposal?

No. The proposal shows scope, hours, totals, and what is included. What is not included is also documented (typically: hosting beyond the first month, third-party licences like premium WordPress themes or paid plugins, media or ad budget, content production beyond what is scoped, additional design rounds beyond the agreed iterations). If scope changes during the project (new feature requests, additional pages, revised design direction), we estimate the change and confirm before we work on it. No surprise invoices. For longer projects we work in two-week sprints with weekly demos, so cost visibility stays high throughout.

Do you also offer monthly retainers or ongoing support?

Yes. After a project launches, most clients move to either a technical maintenance plan or a website support package. Technical maintenance plans start at €39 per month for WordPress, Shopify, or mobile app care, covering updates, backups, security checks, monitoring. Website support packages add monthly support hours: Care (€240/month, 4 hours, 24-hour response), Growth (€480/month, 8 hours, 8-hour response), Partnership (€960/month, 16 hours, 4-hour response). For teams shipping continuously, a dedicated-developer arrangement (40 to 160 hours per month at €60-€65 per hour) treats the project as a living product rather than a delivered artefact. Three-month minimum, then monthly cancellable with one month notice.

Why do you work with a team in India?

The team in Chandigarh joined Studio Ubique in 2015 and has been with us since. Same management, same standards, same processes as the team in NL. Project management, design direction and client communication run through the NL side; development and implementation are split across both teams based on workload and specialism. The honest reason: a senior developer in NL costs us €70-€100 per hour to employ. The same skill level in Chandigarh costs us less, which is how we offer €60-€65 per hour as a rate while paying the team fairly. It is not about cheap labour. The team members stick around for years, get trained on our internal processes, and become familiar with client codebases over time.

How quickly can you start a project?

From discovery call to signed proposal is typically 1 to 2 weeks. From signed proposal to sprint kick-off is another 1 to 2 weeks for design preparation and team allocation. So most projects start moving 3 to 4 weeks after the first call. For urgent scopes (campaign launches with hard deadlines, critical fixes on existing sites), we can move faster if capacity allows. What if our project goes over the estimated hours?

If we underestimate scope from our side (we missed something in discovery, or the work turned out more complex than scoped), the cost overrun is ours. We absorb the additional hours. This rarely happens because we scope carefully, but it is part of how we work. If scope expands because of new requests or changed direction from your side, we estimate the additional work and confirm before starting. Most projects come in at or near the original estimate. The biggest overruns historically have come from late-stage design changes or integration surprises that only became visible deep into development. We flag these risks during discovery so they do not become surprises later.
